Ear pain or sudden hearing loss

No sound / Weak or muffled sound

If your hearing aid is not working, sounds weak or seems muffled, begin with simple power and cleaning checks. A flat battery, a blocked wax guard or dust over the microphones can reduce sound. The right check depends on your hearing aid style and how it is powered. Work through the safe steps below without forcing any parts apart. If your hearing itself suddenly changes, do not assume it is a device fault: contact your GP or NHS 111 urgently.
